Tapas is a style of eating from Spain. Tapas are small tasty dishes of almost any kind of food, usually shared with friends over drinks. Tapas originated in the south of Spain, where small plates were placed over each drink to keep out the flies. The custom then evolved that each plate would have on it a small complimentary snack – for the flies maybe! The custom spread throughout Spain, although outside the South of Spain dishes are larger and charged for. Tapas bars are now popular throughout the world as places to meet up informally to chat, drink wine and enjoy a great variety of food.
